Understanding Low Testosterone                        (Low T) in Men

Testosterone naturally peaks in early adulthood and gradually declines as men age — often beginning around the mid‑30s and continuing at about 1% per year. For some men, this decline becomes more noticeable and begins affecting energy, mood, strength, sexual health, and overall well‑being. Low testosterone (also called male hypogonadism) occurs when the testicles no longer produce adequate levels of testosterone, or when the brain signals that regulate testosterone production become less effective.

Why Low T Happens

Several factors can contribute to declining testosterone levels:

  • Normal aging, which reduces testicular and hormonal function over time

  • Excess body fat, especially abdominal fat, which is strongly linked to lower testosterone

  • Poorly managed Type 2 diabetes, sleep apnea, or chronic medical conditions

  • Stress, certain medications, or prior injury to the testicles

These changes can develop slowly, which is why many men don’t realize their symptoms are hormone‑related.

Common Symptoms of Low T

Low testosterone can affect multiple systems in the body. Men may experience:

  • Reduced sex drive and erectile dysfunction

  • Fatigue and decreased energy

  • Loss of muscle mass and strength

  • Increased body fat or difficulty losing weight

  • Mood changes, including irritability, low motivation, or depressed mood

  • Trouble concentrating or memory changes

  • Decreased endurance and overall vitality

How Testosterone Therapy Can Help

  • When clinically appropriate, Testosterone Replacement Therapy (TRT) can help restore hormone levels and improve many of the symptoms associated with Low T. Research shows TRT may support improvements in:

  • Sexual function and libido

  • Lean muscle mass and strength

  • Energy levels and mood

  • Bone density and overall vitality

  • TRT is medically supervised and tailored to each patient’s needs, with ongoing monitoring to ensure safety and effectiveness.

 Sexual Dysfunction

Treatments for erectile dysfunction, low libido (lack of sexual desire).

Sildenafil (generic Viagra)

Sildenafil is a medication used to support erectile function by improving blood flow during sexual stimulation. It belongs to a group of medications called PDE‑5 inhibitors, which help relax blood vessels and make it easier to achieve and maintain an erection. Most people take it 30 minutes to 1 hour before sexual activity, and it generally lasts around 2 hours, though it remains in the body longer.

Tadalafil (generic Cialis)

Tadalafil is a long‑acting PDE‑5 inhibitor used to support erectile function by improving blood flow during sexual stimulation. It can also help with urinary symptoms from an enlarged prostate (BPH). One of its biggest advantages is duration. Many patients call it the “weekend option” because it can remain effective for up to 36 hours, offering more flexibility and less timing pressure. It may be taken as needed before sexual activity or once daily, depending on the treatment plan.

PT‑141 (Bremelanotide)

PT‑141, also known as bremelanotide, is a peptide used to support sexual desire and arousal by acting directly on the brain pathways involved in sexual response. Unlike medications that work through blood flow, PT‑141 targets melanocortin receptors in the central nervous system, which play a role in sexual motivation and arousal.
